Home Charging

The OLEV Grant, specifically named the Electric Vehicle Homecharge Scheme (EVHS), provides up to £350 off the cost of purchasing & installing a home charging point. You can claim one charge point per eligible vehicle and up to two eligible vehicles per household.

The typical cost for a home charge point and installation is approximately £1000. As part of its Electric Vehicle Homecharge scheme, OLEV currently offers applicants up to £350 towards this cost. As of 1^st July 2019, all charge points must use smart technology in order to be eligible.

The new regulations stated that all partially government-funded home charge points must be “smart”, meaning that charge points must now be able to be remotely accessed, and capable of receiving, interpreting and reacting to a signal. As part of the UK government’s Road to Zero strategy, smart charging capabilities are hoped to help reduce high peaks of electricity demands, minimising the impact of EVs on the grid and to keep costs down for consumers by enabling, and encouraging, off-peak charging.

Requirements to comply for the grant:

You must have dedicated off-street parking.
Your vehicle was purchased after 1st October 2016 and you are the registered owner or keeper.
You have not already claimed the grant for the vehicle.
You are not exceeding the limit of two OLEV funded charge points per household.
Your home is suitable for ‘standard installation’ (terms and conditions).

Workplace / Commercial Charging

The Workplace Charging Scheme (WCS) is a grant provided by the Office for Low Emissions Vehicles (OLEV) to enable businesses to provide charging solutions at work at a reduced cost.

The WCS reduces the purchase and installation cost of a workplace charge point by 75% (capped at £350 per socket including VAT) for up to 40 sockets per business. This can mean a cost saving of up to £14,000.

Requirements to comply for the grant:

Workplace must have dedicated off-street parking.
Whilst you do not need to have electric vehicles currently in your fleet, or employees who drive electric cars to work, your business should be able to highlight the future need for charging solutions at your workplace.
Work must be carried out by an OLEV-approved installer.
